Carol rode the ambulance for her second ER visit this week… and it was only Wednesday. By supper time, she was admitted to the hospital for observation and further testing.
We video call each other now because only patients are allowed upstairs. This morning (Thursday) I was able to call her nurse who readily gave me a detailed update on Carol’s status.
There’s not a real diagnosis yet. COVID has been ruled out… they are aware of the condition that normally requires monitoring and electrolyte replacement. But there is more going on this time. There was fluid on her lungs, which they started dealing with last night. The cough may be from that…maybe also the shortness of breath.
In Spanish we call it, la edad de los nuncas. The age of the nevers… after we get to a certain age, it’s “well, that never hurt before”… or “Well, I never had that symptom before”… etc.
Thus is life… so many uncertainties… reasons to fear. Let’s pray for one another… and cling to the One who clings to us and never lets us go.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-28, ESV)
